Photo Essay: Chinatown

Choosing Canada's Oldest Chinatown was an easy decision for me because of the historical value it holds and the personal connection I have to it. My mom owns Fan Tan Home and Style a store in Chinatown that has been there for 45 years. This strip downtown has such beautiful features.

  1. Hi Lauren,

Your photos of chinatown really capture the true beauty and history that is deeply rooted there. I always enjoy walking through chinatown especially at night when the lights are all lit up from the signs. Whenever I walk around at night there I always image what life would have been like when it first developed.

  2. Your photos are so interesting to look at. I love walking down fan tan alley and exploring the shops, but I had no idea it was Canada's narrowest street!

  3. I lived in Chinatown in 1996 just behind the Chinese School. Every Saturday morning I would hear the laughter of children attending the school. I would get my fruits and vegetables at one of two markets. I also had access to a ceramics studio in Fan Tan Alley in which I did work for studio time. It is the best place.
